The Los Angeles Lakers have faced repeated failures in the postseason since their 2020 NBA title run.
As a 17-time NBA champion, the Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most popular franchises in the world. The Lakers were home to iconic NBA stars like LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Magic Johnson.
But at the same time, purple and gold also house great head coaches. Phil Jackson, who won five NBA championships, or Pat Riley, who was the brain behind “Showtime Era,” is where the Lakers treat icons well.
This is clear from Director Riley getting a statue outside the crypto.com arena. Now, JJ Redick is filming the possibility of etching his name among the best Lakers coaches of all time.
Coaching the iconic franchise has its own challenges, including insanely high expectations from the Laker country.
The NBA community has witnessed how easy and easy it has become for former Lakers coach Durbin Hamm to succumb to that pressure. As a result, many doubted employment as the Lakers’ Redick’s head coach in 2024.
Despite being touted as a failure, coach Redick proved his value to both top brass and fans by leading the Lakers to a 50-32 victory record in his debut season.
However, with the Lakers being eliminated in the first round of the 2025 NBA playoffs, Reddick was naturally rattling.
The silver lining is the fact that the Lakers have a better roster heading into the 2025-26 NBA season, adding DeAndre Ayton and Marcus Smart over the summer.
Plus, it will be interesting to see how Redick can take advantage of Slovenian Superstar, as it will be Luka Doncic’s first full season with the team.
Even if Redick had no experience coaching in the NBA, he has been involved in the basketball game for decades.
He was initially a sensational college player for Duke, but later as a sharp NBA shooter. Redick spent 15 seasons in the NBA, averaging 12.8 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
Reddick was initially a role player off the bench, but he broke out as the LA Clippers’ in Prime as an incredible starting shooter.
Despite his long career, Redick retired without winning the NBA championship. Can he use that hunger to win the Lakers title? Only time can be seen.
