Nick Nurse is currently preparing for his third year with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Modern times were not kind to the Philadelphia 76ers. They struggled in the postseason despite having Joel Embiid as the franchise’s cornerstone star.
Embiid is fighting injuries, but he can also blame the 76ers for not being able to stick to their head coach due to the struggle.
Currently, Nick Nurse is responsible for the burden of mentoring the 76ers. Speaking of which, let’s take a look at the history of nurse coaching in the NBA.
The nurse began her NBA coaching journey as an assistant coach for the Toronto Raptors during the 2013-14 NBA season.
He spent five seasons in Toronto in the same ability before finally winning a promotion to the team’s head coach ahead of the 2018-19 season.
The move turned out to be a master stroke on the side of the Raptors’ front office when nurses led the team to the first ever NBA championship in his newcomer year.
The Nurse also won the NBA Coach of the Year in his incredible debut season as the Raptors head coach. However, the nurse’s journey ended in 2023 after leading the Raptors to a 227-163 record for five seasons.
But before the new season began, the nurses got a job as head coaching for the 76ers. In his first season, the 76ers went 47-35 during the regular season, but ended up with a 4-2 loss in the postseason opening round.
From 2017-18 to the 2023-24 season, the 76ers never missed the postseason, but they didn’t even cross the second round of the Eastern Conference.
However, that streak was shattered during the 2024-25 season as Philadelphia ended the campaign with an overwhelming 24-58 record.
Advances in the coming season, nurses need to ensure that his team enters the campaign with high morale.
It will also be interesting to see how nurses use the third overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, VJ Edgecombe, with the trio of Embiid, Paul George and Tyrees Maxie.
