The weren’t strangers to pitching injuries, but at this point in the season, it’s a big blow to the momentum created by the 9-1 defending champion, along with a $182 million offseason to land on the injured list.
More questions have been asked about this true depth of this LA roster coming in a few days after the news that Freddie Freeman has landed in IL.
As for Snell, the obvious question is who is spinning for him. Luckily for the , there are a few more options than capable options to hold back the mound, at least for Snell’s scheduled start on Tuesday.
The first option is to raise another Southpaw from Justin Wobbleski. He pitched last in Triple A Oklahoma City on April 1, pitching a scoreless inning of 5.2 and only allowed three hits in the start.
Last season, in Double-A and Triple-A, the 24-year-old pitched 95.2 innings with a 3.76 ERA in 20 appearances. His 104 strikeout to just 31 walks shows that he has plenty of potential to fill the ‘ snell-sized hole.
Another option for Triple-A is fellow left-handed Landon Knack. The 27-year-old pitched a little recently on April 3, bailing out 4.2 innings. In these frames he threw five strikeouts, allowing two walks and two runs.
The can also develop right-handed pitcher Bobby Miller, but he is scheduled to pitch on Sunday. That means we won’t be ready until next weekend. Miller was trying out the 2024 season, but this season got off to a strong first start, pitching a 4.2 shutout inning on March 30th.
The can also opt to use the bullpen game for what will be Snell’s first scheduled start on Tuesday. Then right-handed pitcher Tony Gonzolin may be ready to take a place in Snell’s rotation by next week.
Talent like Snell prevents not only pitching output, but also a lot of excitement after such a hot start. The two young pitchers have proven themselves with such a brief triple-A, and should have the opportunity to continue pitching productively with lights that are much brighter than before.
