Founded in 1860, the Open Championship is the oldest golf tournament in the world. Owned and operated by the Royal and Ancient Golf Clubs in St Andrews, the Open (also known as the British Open) takes place annually in the UK. The event is the last of four major championships held annually on the PGA Tour (Masters, PGA Championship, Us Open) and is historically held on the third Friday weekend of July.
Harry Burdon won top honors in 1896, 1898, 1899, 1903, 1911 and 1914, and will host the 2025 Open Championship, the 153rd original major in golf, from July 17-20, at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Illuland. The total prize money for the opening this year is $17 million, with recipients receiving $3.1 million.
