Rand Norris is not interested in Oscar Piastri’s recent momentum in the 2025 Formula One title race.
Piastri has won three of his final four races since Norris won the Australian Grand Prix in the season opener.
The results of Piastri moved him to the top of the Formula One driver’s championship for the first time in his career.
The Australian is 10 points ahead of Norris heading to Miami this weekend.
For Norris, it was a difficult race, with mistakes littered.
Norris came in sixth in Bahrain after a Q3 lap scattered with errors.
While he recovered to finish third in the race, Norris struggled in wheel-to-wheel combat with Charles Leclerc and George Russell.
In Saudi Arabia, Norris crashed in the third quarter, finishing in 10th place on the grid.
Despite the impressively shaped running of the Piastri, Norris is not worried.
“No, I’m not worried at all. He’s doing a good job. He deserves it,” Norris said at a press conference Thursday in Miami.
“Not more. I don’t believe much in momentum. That’s my opinion. I’ll do what I can. I obviously made some mistakes. I know where the level I need.
“No, don’t worry. There’s no need to worry too much. It’s a round six of 24. I’m not going to say that forever. I know I need to make a move. I need to get into the gear a little bit.
“There’s speed. There’s pace. There’s pace. There’s definitely the pace for the race. That’s one of the things I need to clean up. It’s difficult, but I’m sure I’ll get it.”
Norris wants to implement what he learned
Norris’ main racial weakness these days was his qualifying performance.
Norris excelled in qualifying last year as Piastri managed to qualify him only four times.
Norris hopes to be able to put what he learns into “practical” this weekend.
“I’m working on my own,” Norris added. “I’m working on what to improve and trying to figure out everything behind the scenes about what I need to do to get better, and certainly not because of a lack of speed or the ability to do so.
“I often go down the road in Q1 and Q2, but whenever I get to Q3, I don’t plan that. Yeah, I think there are other things on the driver’s side that aren’t clicking on.
“But I’m working on it and hopefully I can put it into practice this weekend.”
