This weekend, as the FA Cup quarterfinals take place, four clubs will book the location at Wembley for the semi-finals.
Wembley hosts the last four each year since 2008, with stadiums like Old Trafford and Villa Park standing during the famous ground reconstruction at the turn of the century.
But why isn’t Wembley Stadium saved due to the finale of the competition?

The answer is pretty boring: money. In fact, it was decided in 2003 during the construction of a new stadium – the semi-finals were performed under the famous arch, assisting in paying for the new ground.
Wembley held its first semifinals in the early 1990s, including the derby between Wednesdays at Arsenal & Tottenham Hotspur and Sheffield United & Sheffield.
Wembley also saw two semi-finals in the capital (00/1999) before he was knocked down. Aston Villa and Chelsea won before the Blues repeated the trick in the final.
Now a sort of annual tradition, Wembley holds semi-finals every weekend, but it’s not without opposition.
First, football purists will argue that there may be geographical factors to consider from time to time, especially when the two north sides are paired, but that we should save Wembley for the final show event.

This year’s draw means there’s only one London representative in the last four, and Crystal Palace took Fulham out of its anchorage after seeing its only All-London quarterfinals.
Things seem unlikely to change anytime soon, especially given that the semi-finals have been staged at Wembley for 18 seasons, and are filled with passionate supporters, especially when anyone is involved.
