Manchester United are looking for deals to improve their team during the summer transfer last month, in addition to signing Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Matthews Cunha.
The Red Devils are confident they can sign Brentford forward Brian Mbeumo to complete their contract to bolster options at the top of the pitch.
During the 2024/25 season, Cameroon International provided 20 goals and seven assists in all competitions.
The signatures of Cunha and Mbeumo show that if the latter passes, United are looking for a proven performer in the Premier League to help them kick on, but the Red Devil is also looking even further.
Man watching Lariga Ace
Not only do they want to improve options at the top of the pitch, but the club wants to improve their midfield by signing players who can score goals and support them.
According to catch-offside, Manchester United are one of many teams in the race to sign Barcelona’s defensive midfielder Mark Casado this summer.
The report claims that Amorim is interested in a deal to bring the Spaniards to the UK but has not yet contacted the Lariga champion.
However, it has been revealed that their Premier League rivals Chelsea and Arsenal have spoken to Barcelona to ask about the potential talent of the 21-year-old.
The Catchoffside adds that despite having a £86 million release clause, it will cost around £43 million to seduce the Spanish giants to seduce the midfielders to win cash.
Man Utd was able to find the next carrick
If United could trade through the Barcelona star line this summer, Amorim could unearth a version of Michael Carrick’s own in the middle of the park.
The former Red Devils star who recently managed Middlesbrough was the club’s midfield metronome and had the incredible ability to direct plays with his quality on the ball.
Since the 2009/10 season (from when data became available), England International completed 88% of his attempted passes in 272 games before the end of his career.
In Cassad, United were able to find a young midfielder with similar qualities to Carrick. But at 21, he is still very raw and needs time to develop and hit his path at an advanced level.
He made 23 appearances for Barcelona in the Lariga title-winning season, leading talent scout Jacek Kulig into his “incredible” format, showing the types of qualities that link him to the former United midfielder.

As you can see in the table above, he is highly ranked among positioning peers on many ownership-based indicators, both his pass accuracy and progressive passing statistics refer to his efficiency and effectiveness at the ball under his feet.
These statistics suggest that Cassad could be shaped into a Carrick-esque figure for Amorim as a deep midfielder who can move the ball and direct the game.
However, Cassad only won 53% of his duels, but including 28% of his air combat, he may need to truly thrive in the UK to improve the physical aspects of his game.
This is why he may not be an article that was immediately completed for Manchester United in the Premier League, but he has an attribute that will potentially develop into Amorim’s own Carrick in the future.
