Fernando Alonso has revealed his future in Formula 1 and acknowledges his “days” plans for 2026.
Alonso, 44, is the oldest driver on the 2025 F1 grid, four years older than Lewis Hamilton.
The Spaniard continues to be motivated to race in Formula 1 despite having not won a Grand Prix since 2013.
His last F1 world title appeared in 2006, almost 20 years ago.
Alonso has fixed hopes in 2026 to new rules, which should shake up the hierarchy.
Aston Martin has invested heavily over the years and is upgrading Silverstone Headquarters.
They also strengthened their technical team by signing Adrian Newey from Red Bull.
In an interview with AS, Alonso revealed that success in 2026 could affect his retirement decision.
Alonso said: “But I have to think about it myself. If the car is moving forward badly, I have a chance to stay another year and finish a positive note.
Ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix this weekend, Alonso said he would place his team “first” when deciding on the future of Formula 1.
“I don’t have a crystal ball so I have given an answer that will last forever,” Alonso told reporters in Singapore.
“Until May, that’s what I feel now. If you have a car that enjoys driving and has results, I probably… I mean, I’ll always be discussing with Lawrence and the team what their needs are, and the team comes first and I don’t need me to race second.
“I am happy with my career and I think I am very fortunate to be here for so many years, and now is the time to help and enjoy the team.
Alonso is “confident” next year
Alonso has been experiencing a mixed campaign for 2025 F1.
He has yet to be refined this season by Aston Martin’s teammate Lance Walk, but Alonso sits behind him in the rankings of points.

The bad luck ruined the chances of Alonso scoring multiple times.
Anyway, Alonso still enjoys herself and is “confident” in the new rules for 2026.
“It’s better than ever. Yes, I think so. Last year, this year, it’s not going to be a place where you can see cars,” he added.
“I think we have some issues behind it. We’ve sometimes dealt with some weaknesses that are not too obvious from the outside.
“But yes, personally, I think that was possible last year with some of the performances this year, and I think it was possible 20 years ago. That’s my opinion, that’s my opinion, that’s why I’m relaxed, I’m happy, I’m enjoying myself and I’m confident in next year.”
