Chael Sonnen wonders if John Jones burned the final bridge along with Fight Fans.
People were excited when they announced that “Bones” had returned to the octagon in 2023. Two years later, the former two division champion appears to be on everyone’s sh*t list after actually holding the heavyweight division hostage for two years and then forced interim title holder Tom Aspinoll to sit on the bystander waiting for a fight that never comes.
Jones eventually retired from the sport in June, urging the UFC to promote aspinel to an indisputable heavyweight champion.
Thirteen days later, “Bones” announced that he was returning to the UFC test pool and writing to X. Needless to say, the fans weren’t funny.
Jones has dismissed almost all of his heavyweight titles, angering fans and dismissing Aspinel as a legitimate challenger. “American gang” wonders if anyone could actually return to Jones’ octagon.
“Do you get excited? Can John be manipulated? Can fans be manipulated through the media? Is it a fight where if it’s booked, you can trust and believe it? And, if so, what should John do?” Sonnen said on his YouTube channel.
Jones may be honest about his decision to retire, but fans will remain skeptical until the moment he actually stepped into the octagon.
He can thank Conor McGregor.
“The Notorious” spent two years of misleading fans, claiming his quote unknown “the biggest comeback in the history of combat sports,” before quitting his fight with Michael Chandler with his broken pinky toe.
It is still fresh in the hearts of many, so it is safe to say that “bone” cannot be immediately given the bounty of doubt.
