The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially confirmed that the greatest batsmen of our time, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, will not retire from ODI cricket after the upcoming series against the Australian national cricket team.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Vice-President Rajeev Shukla candidly said that the perception that the tour to Australia will be the last time Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be seen in international cricket is completely wrong.

India is scheduled to tour Australia for three ODI series and five T20I series in October-November 2025. Perth Stadium will host the opening ODI series on October 19, with the next two matches scheduled to be held in Adelaide and Sydney on October 23 and 25. Thereafter, T20I matches are scheduled to be held at five different venues on October 29, 31, November 2, 6 and 8.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired from Test and T20I cricket and have played very few ODIs these days, so they are likely to make limited appearances until they are available for international cricket.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli last played competitive cricket in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Prior to that, he represented the Indian national cricket team in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The duo performed brilliantly in the tournament and helped India defeat New Zealand in the final and win the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
It is definitely wrong to say this is the last ODI series – Rajeev Shukla
There were also reports that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will announce their retirement from ODI cricket at the end of the series against Australia.
These talks have put them in the spotlight ahead of the tour, but so far no hints about their farewell series have been given by the duo. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla also confirmed that Rohit and Kohli will not retire after the Australia series.
“It will benefit us a lot. They are great batsmen. We will have them in the team and we will be successful in defeating Australia. It is absolutely wrong to say this is their last ODI series. It is up to the players to decide when they have to retire,” he told ANI in Delhi.
