Scotland will face England in the quarterfinals of the World Cup after fighting Canada in a 40-19 defeat at Sandy Park in Exeter.

The battle to finish the top of Pool B was heading into the final quarter, with Canada at second in the global rankings and second among tournament favorites.

Both teams were already qualified for the knockout phase, and Devon’s outcome decided who would avoid all the conquered England.

Scotland pursued upsets and produced eye-catching moments, but often overwhelmed at the frontline and struggled to deal with the speed of the opposing ball.

During the first half, they matched their favorite blow of a hit with a 22-minute Canadian try straight from the top drawer in a 22-minute Canadian try.

It came after a long spell of knocking on the door, and it came with a reward when Lisa Thomson and Rachel McLachlan managed to keep the ball alive to send Lloyd.

The Canadian lead, established when McKinley Hunt passed 12 minutes, was reduced to 7-5, but they cantered far by using the yellow card shown to Evie Gallagher for a foul on the line.

First they were awarded a penalty for the strength of the dominant scrum that had been illegally stopped, and then Emily Tutosi landed when the gap was opened, and Scotland struggled to deal with the speed of the attack.

Chasing 19-5, Scotland once again put pressure on Opposition 22, running to the line where Gallagher swept her across the White Wash as Helen Nelson made the yard.

But the good work was quickly reverted when he was plundered from a lineout from a weak tackle in Sarabonner’s second row.

Nelson had made a banned attempt for offside, a key moment just after the Canadian pack tried a replacement prop Brittany Casil and bent his muscles.

Francesca McGee and Olivia Demanto traded late trys.
