SHANGHAI – Wu Ashung has overcame a four-shot deficit after fifty birdies on Sunday’s charges on the back nine, overcoming a four-shot deficit and managed to win the China Open for the second time.
The victory came 10 years after the 39-year-old WU first won the China Open. It was his fifth career victory on the European tour.
Spain’s Lee Haton and Eugenio Chakara began their final round tied for the lead at Enting Ananting Golf Club, closing in one over each.
Wu quickly ran off three birdies on a four-hole stretch when Chakara made his turn with three shots behind him. The Spaniard playing behind him had three bogeys on the back nine and retreated.
Woo finished at 14 under and beat England’s Jordan Smith with one shot. He birded the final hole at 67.
The tour of Europe will remain in Hainan classics in China for another week.
