Liverpool was beaten by Newcastle United in the English League Cup final earlier today.

Newcastle won the game 2-1 thanks to goals from Dan Byrne and Alexander Isaac. Federico Chiesa has added Liverpool’s comfort goal. But it wasn’t enough for the Reds to get something from the contest.

Liverpool was completely abolished by the Newcastle team, who deserved to have a prolonged trophy.

The Reds were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League earlier this week, and their loss in the Cup final will be a hammer blow to them. It is still unclear whether Liverpool will be able to bounce back hard and bring their stud campaign back on track.

However, Liverpool is currently hit hard by midfielder Harvey Elliott’s injuries towards the end of the game. The midfielders had to be helped by the medical staff pitch. Video of the incident shows that there could be more trouble for Arne Slot and his team in the coming weeks.

Liverpool needs squad depth

With the lack of rotation over the last few months, Liverpool players will be attractive and will need to spin their teams over the next few weeks to extract the optimal level of performance to win titles.

If Elliott’s injury is severe, it could be a big blow to Liverpool. The talented young offensive midfielder can be slotted into multiple roles, creating opportunities for scoring and finding the back of the net may be very useful for the Reds.

It will be interesting to see if he can quickly return to action. Liverpool has shown a sharp decline in form in recent weeks, and injuries could not have come at a bad time.
