The first official taste of the Yamaha V4 MotoGup bike in the post-race Miller Misano Test left him at the 17th fastest after a “interesting” day.
Pramac Yamaha Miller, as well as factory duo Fabio Qualtalaro and Alex Rins rode the V4 YZR-M1 at Misano after Augusto Fernandez gave him a racing debut last weekend (September 12-14).
Miller says Yamaha is “on the right path” with his new bike, but admits that it’s still a “very early day” with his new project.
“It was very interesting to have the opportunity to do a shakedown of the new Yamaha V4 bike,” Jack Miller said after the Misano test.
“It was a good test to understand both the strengths and weak points of the machine, maximize the powerful areas and improve the weak areas.
“We’re on the right path. The bikes are working well. Compared to this year’s YZR-M1, we’re heading for the better in areas that are already progressing.
“Both from the old M1, which is the angular velocity, we are now trying to find a new balance in terms of geometry, weight distribution and all of those aspects.
“The bikes are doing everything right, but now they need time. These are still very early days of the project.”
Pramac team director Gino Borsoi said that being part of this new era for Yamaha at MotoGP is something the Italian team is proud of.
“This first day feeling with the YZR-M1 V4 prototype was good from the start, as we start with blank paper,” Bolsoy said.
“For us, it’s very important to give Yamaha feedback and our perspective on this new project. We know it will be a long journey, but we are extremely proud to be part of this new challenge with Yamaha.
“It’s important for Pramac Race to start from scratch, because we can develop all our efforts in the right way. The old YZR-M1 was already a complete bike, but with the new V4 prototype, we can provide feedback to Yamaha engineers.
“Yamaha has a huge amount of work and we are ready to do our part.
“Today’s testing was important to begin to understand the direction we need to work on. Jack (Miller)’s comments are already very clear. In some areas, we received good feedback and have improved over the older bikes, but we know there is still a lot to do in other areas.”
