The Atlanta Hawks moved down in the NBA Draft and sent center derrick queen to the New Orleans Pelican in return for the #23 pick.
The Atlanta Hawks have decided not to use the lottery in the 2025 NBA Draft.
In trade with the Pelican in New Orleans, the Hawks are sending Derrick Queen. In return, the Hawks will get the Pelican #23 pick and the unprotected 2026 first round pick.
The Pelicans took off the coup and landed two lottery picks, combined with the terror of the Queen and Jeremiah, and they landed on the #7 general pick.
As for the Atlanta Hawks, they decided to think better about the draft and moved out of the lottery. Interestingly, the Hawks swapped the #22 pick for the net yesterday and this time they returned to #23.
Here is the complete breakdown of the transactions below:
- New Orleans Pelican receives: Derrick Queen (#13 pick)
- Atlanta Hawks Received: 2025 First Round Pick (#23 Pick), 2026 First Round Pick (Best of Mill or NOP)
With this deal, the Pelican is dealing with two major weaknesses. They land scoring guards who can distribute the ball and talented centers who can protect the rims.
The fear that fits the Pelican’s newly acquired guard Jordan Pool is at best unstable, but he can learn how to develop the game and score.
The deal brings the Atlanta Hawks to two first-round picks. However, their own choices will be subject to swap as part of the Dejounte Murray Trade, and Spurs will get a more advantageous work.
Land another first round pick for next year. This will be determined by either the Bucks or Pelican records for next season and could be a coup.
Next year’s NBA Draft class will feature outstanding talents such as AJ Dybantsa and Cameron Boozer.
But for now, the Hawks are focusing on the overall pick of #23 and attempting to land a solid rotation player from a strong draft class.
