Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca confirmed that the London club will attempt to sign a quality winger during the summer transfer period.
Jadon Sancho leaves the club at the expiration of his loan agreement, and Chelsea will come to bring about alternatives. They desperately need quality wide players. They need someone who can be slotted on either side and contribute to their goals and creativity.
Chelsea had the option to sign Sancho forever, but they opposed it.
Maresca confesses his Chelsea plan
Maresca said (H/T Fabrizio Romano): “New winger? Something will certainly happen. Jadon Sancho has left, so now he only has three proper wingers.”
They are overly dependent on Cole Palmer in the final third. He needs more support in the attack and ideally signs dynamic attackers. Mykhailo Mudryk has been extremely poor since joining the club and faces a long ban on doping.
Improved attacking units is a top priority for Chelsea. They scored and signed Liam Dellup this summer, and they need to bring more creativity now.
Meanwhile, comments from the manager are extremely exciting for fans. He’s pretty much confirmed that Chelsea will sign wide players this summer.
It remains to be seen whether they can bring the right additions.
Chelsea is linked to Jamie Gittens
They have been linking with Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens for the past few weeks. Chelsea have failed offers to sign the 20-year-old, and they are expected to return for him. It remains to be seen whether they will be able to negotiate a reasonable deal with the German club.
Chelsea have secured qualifying for the Champions League next season, and are looking to compete for the trophy next year. You need a quality player and improve your attacking units to help you gain more silverware.
They recently won the UEFA Europa Conference League. They aim to compete for the league title next year.
