South African young gun Rouen Dore Pretorius announced that he has arrived in his style in a great century, debuting on the first day of his ongoing first test against Zimbabwe at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo. Pretorius is one of three proteas debutants in his first test against Zimbabwe.

Lhuan-dre Pretorius reached his maiden with a neat flick on deep rear square legs as the youngster celebrated the moment with roars of joy and assorted bats. Pretorius’s calm and flare already show him as a rising star when he embraces his batting partner Corbin Bosch.

The Proteas Wicket Keeper batter broke the 61-year-old record held by legendary Graeum Pollock, who played against Australia in 1964, and became South Africa’s youngest player to win a century in Test cricket.

He is also one of the few Protea players to hit the test debut for a century. Stephen Cook was the last man to achieve the same feat as England in 2016. Pretorius is currently batting at 120* from 134 balls, already hitting seven boundaries and three sixes.

Now, Pretorius and Corbin Bosch have proven dangerous to Zimbabwe. This is because the South African star has added over 60 runs to his seventh wicket in the first session at Bulawayo. The WTC Champion’s current score is present in the second session of the ongoing two-match Test Series opener, 59 overs at Teebreak with 59 overs at 248/6.

Now, Temba Bavuma has been removed from the Zimbabwe tour due to hamstring issues. In the absence of Bavuma, Keshav Maharaj, who captained South Africa with seven ODIs and five T20Is, is the first to lead the Proteas side in the traditional form of the game.

South Africa returned to Zimbabwe for a Test match after a long gap. They last performed in Zimbabwe at the ODI series held in Harare in September 2014. The final test in Zimbabwe was also held in Harare in August 2014. The two teams last met in a Test match at St. George Park in South Africa in December 2017. It was a day and night test match that ended in just two days.
