As a full-time designated batsman, Martinez was unable to sign a contract with the club. Most teams have already filled positions in the offseason, and the 2024 All-Star Down season may be a factor in why the organization is not trying to sign him.
In 2024, Martinez reduced .235/.320/.406 with 16 home runs and 69 RBIs in the New York Mets in 120 games. But by the time the Mets reached the postseason, Martinez had left his job as Jesse Winker became the team’s DH.
Martinez has ended its 2024 campaign.
Martinez appears to have received an offer from the Texas Rangers recently, but it is unclear whether the former will agree to join the organization. MLB Insider Jon Heyman reported on Martinez’s recent offer from Rangers.
“The struggling ranger has made an offer that is not guaranteed to JD Martinez, who continues to exercise in Miami if the right deal comes,” Hayman writes.
Two of the four designated Rangers batsmen on the roster are on the injured list, including former JOC Pederson.
In 2023, Martinez reduced 103 RBIs with .271/.321/.572 with 33 home runs, cutting the with 103 RBIs. The campaign marked the most home runs that it has hit the season since it recorded 23 dingers during the 2019 season.
Martinez is a solid DH for the and the team would probably have held him if they hadn’t signed Shohei ohtani.
