Tommy Edman came out in the Los Angeles series finale against the Tampa Bay Rays in five innings after suffering an ankle injury while running to the base.
Edman has been playing through a prolonged ankle injury since May and unfortunately tweaked again against the Rays.

The were considering placing Edman and Utility Man Heisenkim on their list injured at the end of July. Los Angeles called Alex Freeland as a backup option and ultimately decided to put Kim in IL.
After finishing the game early on Sunday, Edman was diagnosed with an ankle sprain. There is no exact timeline for his return, but manager Dave Roberts hopes he will be out until September, according to insiders.
“It’s probably going to be a while in September,” Roberts said.
The want to make sure Edman doesn’t encounter any more ankle pain when he returns. The NL Gold Glove winner played an integral role after joining the team at the trade deadline last season in the team’s World Series Championship.

Los Angeles acquired Edman and reliever Michael Kopek in a three-team trade between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago White Sox in 2024.
Edman has remained a key player for the this season, playing several roles on the field. He was mostly their second baseman, but appeared in the center field, buried in 3 bases, Max Muncie recovered from his bone bruise.
At the plate, Edman has cut .228/.281/.396, hitting 12 home runs in 86 games.
The hope Edman will be healthy by the end of the season, but they have taken extra precautions to ensure he will be fully healthy in October and will not suffer another setback before the postseason.
