The Los Angeles dropped their first game of the series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday, with many realising that two-time CY Young Award winner Blakesnell is far from his best.
Southpaw pitched eight strikeouts in a 5.1 innings job, but allowed three wins, three walks and three hits.
In Snell’s latest start, his four-seam fastball averaged 93.7 mph compared to 95.2 mph per hour a week ago. But manager Dave Roberts doesn’t seem too worried as Snell has been part of the past week.

“Blake was fine. It was a strange week for him, for the kind of things he was trying to have a baby and readjust, his sleep schedule, all of that,” Roberts said. “He wasn’t very good in the tank tonight.”
Snell and his wife, Haley, added their second child to the family last week. Southpaw spoke about his off-the-mand responsibility for attending to contribute to the loss.
“I’ve had a busy week, man. There’s a lot going on,” Snell said. “I’m not worried (slowing speed). I know what’s going on. So I’ll come back. I’m not worried about it. I mean, I knew it. But I’m not going to push it. That’s what it is. That’s what I had.
Snell wasn’t perfect on Friday, but there was still much to be desired from the offense.
The were only called up three hits all night, so a zero run was played on the board as the game began. The lesser version of Snell still managed to keep things a little closer, but it’s hard to win the game with three hits of pitcher support.
As Roberts pointed out, the only thing left for LA is to look to the next game and do everything you can to get back to the winning column.
“We couldn’t put together anything all night,” Roberts said. “For me, I think we just washed this and focused on Rodriguez (left-handed Eduardo) tomorrow.”
