Both WorldSBK riders are in doubt for the Estoril WorldSBK round from October 10-12, but both have been confirmed to at least start on the penultimate race weekend of the season.

Danilo Petrucci and Iker Lecuona both arrive at Estoril with injuries.

Petrucci announced on Wednesday night, October 8, that he had injured his right hand, including a metacarpal fracture, while training in the gym the week after the Aragon round. As confirmed by WorldSBK, the Italian has been cleared to take part in FP1 in Estoril, but will be reconsidered after the session.

Lecuona, meanwhile, has been out of action since suffering a double fracture in his right arm in a first-lap crash caused by Andrea Iannone in Race 1 at Balaton Park.

The Spanish rider, who last visited Aragon to help his successor Tommy Bridewell adapt to the Motorland circuit he had never visited before, will aim to return to the track himself at the Estoril race.

Like Petrucci, Lecuona has been cleared to take part in FP1, but WorldSBK confirmed that this will be reviewed after the session to determine whether he can continue for the weekend.

Petrucci and Lecuona’s availability for the weekend in Estoril after FP1 is uncertain, while GRT Yamaha’s Dominik Aegerter was ruled out after sustaining a fractured metacarpal during training after Aragón.

Egerter’s future in 2026 is currently not secured, so his absence from racing comes at an unfortunate time for the Swiss rider.

Questions also remain as to whether Egerter will be available for the 2025 final round in Jerez next weekend (October 17-19). These questions will also concern Lecuona and/or Petrucci if they are unable to continue the Estoril weekend past FP1 on Friday morning.
