Cooper Flagg has continued to improve throughout the preseason in preparation for the new NBA season, which begins later this month.

Flagg has consistently impressed, and the No. 1 pick has been receiving praise from fans following his recent performance against the Charlotte Hornets.

Flagg showed off his two-way ability with 11 points, four assists, and three steals despite the Mavericks losing 120-116.

NBA analysts such as Bill Simmons already believe Flagg will help the Mavs reach 40-plus wins next season.

After the Hornets game, teammate Derek Lively II shared his thoughts on the rookie, noting that Flagg has grown in certain aspects since joining the Mavericks.

“His vision, his ability to see the floor. Whether he’s running through a fast break or not, he can make plays,” Lively explained.

“But also, when we’re in the half court, when time is running out, he can make the right pass, the right shot, or just do it aggressively, and that’s what we need there.”

Lively highlighted how Flagg’s decision-making has evolved in both transition sets and structured offensive sets.

The rookie’s ability to read the situation and make the appropriate choices shows maturity beyond the typical first-year player.

Personally, Lively feels that Flagg’s presence has had a huge impact on both his personal game and the team’s overall defensive scheme.

Flagg has the physical attributes and skills to protect both centers and forwards, providing valuable coverage.

“He’s aggressive. Whether he’s making mistakes or doing the right thing, he’s always trying to make his teammates better and make the right plays,” Lively said.

“It’s nice to have him supporting me. If I go forward for a contest and knowing he’s behind me on the other side of it definitely just makes my job easier, and it makes his job easier.”

Flagg can handle ball-handling responsibilities and defend multiple positions effectively, hinting at true two-way potential.

If he continues to improve during the regular season and live up to expectations, the Mavericks could find a franchise cornerstone for the post-Luka Doncic era.
