Fabio Quartararo took an impressive pole position for the 2025 Australian MotoGP Qualifying at Phillip Island, his fifth of the season.

The Yamaha rider surged from 10th to pole position on the final lap, holding off Aprilia’s Marco Bezzecchi in a seemingly safe P1.

Home hero Jack Miller was the favorite from start to finish and regained third place on the final lap, with two M1s on the front row.

Raul Fernández (Trackhouse Aprilia), Pedro Acosta (KTM) and Alex Marquez (Gresini Ducati) will form the second row.

The top Ducati rider was Alex Marquez, who crashed twice, while Francesco Bagnaia remained in 11th place.

Fermin Aldeguer and Miller led from Qualifying 1 and advanced to Qualifying 2, where Brad Binder was twice investigated for an incident with Lorenzo Savadori and for interference with Johann Zarco. FIM stewards have not yet announced their verdict.

The 13-lap Phillip Island Sprint Race will start at 3pm.

Phillip Island MotoGP official records:

Best lap: Marco Bezzecchi, Aprilia, 1 minute 26.492 seconds (2025)

Fastest lap of the race: Marc Marquez, Ducati, 1 minute 27.765 seconds (2024)

Jorge Martin, Marc Marquez and Maverick Vinales, who were on the front row at last year’s Australian Grand Prix, have all missed the 2025 event due to injury.

2025 world champion Marquez will miss at least the next two races after undergoing surgery on a torn right clavicular ligament caused by a collision with Marco Bezzecchi in Indonesia.

Aprilia’s Martin also continues to miss the Indonesia round after undergoing surgery for a broken collarbone sustained in a collision with teammate Bezzecchi in Turn 1 at Motegi.

Tech3’s Vinales withdrew after qualifying in Mandalika due to continuing issues with his shoulder healing.

Marquez, Martin and Vinales are all former Phillip Island MotoGP winners, with only Alex Rins (2022) and Johann Zarco (2023) having won in Australia’s premier class.

Marquez will be replaced by Ducati test rider Michele Pirro, Martin by Aprilia test rider Lorenzo Savadori and Vinales by KTM test rider Pol Espargaro.

Bezzecchi is back at Phillip Island but will have to serve a double long lap penalty on Sunday after a scary incident on the opening lap with Marquez at Mandalika.
