Tom Aspinall’s first defense as the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion didn’t go as planned.
Aspinall stole the spotlight in the main event at UFC 321 and came out aggressive, throwing body kicks and looking for an early knockout blow. During a back and forth fight midway through the first round, Gane reached out and poked Apsinal in both eyes at the same time.
The fight was stopped and Aspinall was given time to recover. Unfortunately, he never did.
After more than three minutes of recovery, Aspinall revealed that he had lost vision in his right eye. As a result, the match was abandoned due to an unintentional foul, resulting in a no-contest.
official results: Tom Aspinall vs. Cyril Gane was ruled a no contest due to an accidental eye poke at 4:35 of round 1.
