A nightmare scenario has emerged for Chelsea striker Marc Giu as he could struggle to secure a move away from Stamford Bridge in January.
The young Spaniard has struggled for first-team football at Chelsea and had to be recalled from his loan to Sunderland by the Blues due to an injury to Liam Delap.
According to TEAMtalk, Sunderland are not entirely sure whether they will bring Giu back to the Stadium of Light in January.
As their report explains, not everyone at Sunderland wants Giu to return, but it would severely damage his chances of playing football this season.
For now, it seems highly unlikely that Giu will join the Chelsea team, but FIFA rules limit players to representing two clubs in a season, so he also cannot move to another club.
Marc Giu’s recovery requires a move to Sunderland
It looks like it will take a miracle for Giu to break into regular appearances at Stamford Bridge, with Joao Pedro currently ahead of him in the pecking order, but Delap will also return from injury soon, providing further competition.
That means the 19-year-old should be able to continue his development there with Sunderland returning in his place.
The fact that this is the situation with Giu shows how badly Chelsea have handled it, and they probably would have been better off leaving him on his first loan spell with the Black Cats.
Right now, they just have unstable players who aren’t adding anything to the team. Even if they understandably panicked over not having a back-up behind first-choice striker Pedro.
It will be interesting to see how this situation plays out as January approaches, but it’s a bit of a mess at the moment and Chelsea have only themselves to blame for that.
