There is still plenty of gas left in the tank in the Tofiq Musayev.
After competing at Rizin and appearing several times under Bellator MMA Banner, the former Lightweight Grand Prix Champion made his octagon debut this Saturday with the promotion heading to UFC Baku’s home country of Azerbaijan.
So the 35-year-old standout is alongside 16-game veteran Myktybek Orolbai, who is aiming to bounce after suffering a close, comprehensive split-decision loss against Mateusz RęBecki in October.
While some suggest that Musayev’s best days are behind him, Orion Fight Club affiliates are ready to show the world that their age is just a number.
“People always talk about my age, but I’m not old at all,” Musayev said on Wednesday in UFC Media Day in Baku. “I feel great. Age is just a number for me. I have a lot of experience. I think experience is more important than age. I’m showing everyone that I can compete at the highest level here and run to the title.”
Tofiq Musayev is excited to show UFC fans what he can do
Musayev enters his promotional debut under his belt with a big victory over Patrickie Pitbull and Sydney Outlaw. Overall, he’s 22-5 with 18 wins coming with KO/TKO and one pair of submission finishes.
“It’s a dream for all fighters to fight in the UFC,” Musaev added. “Of course, that’s on a different level. I feel very fortunate to be here. I’ve fought in a variety of organizations, but this is a unique organization. I’m well prepared and I’m going to represent my country with pride. I’ve prepared specifically for the other party.”
