Nora Cornor called for Ilyn Perez and now she has a response.
After Miami’s submission victory at UFC 314, Cornor (9-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) took the microphone and let the world know that he wanted Perez (12-2 MMA, 5-1 UFC). Perez doesn’t think that French fighters deserve the opportunity, and she fishes for a high level of opposition. But if the UFC wants a match, Perez sees it as an easy salary.
“My reaction to her callout, I saw her mentioned me several times, she is very troubled and needs a fight with someone who has a name, so she wants to fight me,” Perez told Hablemos MMA in Spanish. “My opinion about Nora is that it’s easy money. She obviously doesn’t deserve to fight me, but if the UFC thinks she needs a fight, I’ll fight her.
“It’s an easy fight for me to come back from surgery and even do it in France in front of her fans. That’s fine.”
Cornor finished his battle with Hailey Cowan in the second round, but Perez wasn’t impressed with what he saw that night.
“The fight was so boring, I thought it was terrible,” Perez said. “The only thing that saved the fight was submission, as no one was paying attention to it. I was half-hearted to watch it on my phone on my way to the arena.”
Since losing her UFC debut in 2022, Perez has won five consecutive wins, with her recent recent victory in January, beating veteran candidate Carol Rosa and punching her tickets into the top 10 rankings in the UFC women’s bantamweight division.
Perez revealed in the same interview that she had shoulder surgery on February 7th and has since recovered. She’s just back in light workouts and expects her doctor to be ready to fight by September or October.
