Alex Pereira gives back to his community.
Next month, “Poatan” will try to regain the UFC light heavyweight title that it surrendered in March. But first, the two division title holders focus on doing some good in his old stomping grounds.
“We have a laboratory Poitan in our neighborhood where we were born in Sao Paulo,” Pereira recently appeared in Ariel Helwanishaw. “We have over 700 registered children. We offer free kickboxing, jiu-jitsu, computer and English classes. This is a success and helps many children from poor backgrounds with challenges like alcohol and drugs.”
“When I was a kid, I couldn’t afford to take those classes. I just tried it myself. Now I give back by offering these opportunities to others for free.”
Prior to his battle with Khalil Rountree at UFC 307, Pereira donated over 1,000 food boxes to the people of his hometown of San Bernardo do Campo. “Poatan” donated $120,000 to support aid and cleaning efforts following the massive flooding in southern South Brazil in 2024.
Alex Pereira seeks redemption in the UFC 320 octagon
When Pereira finally stepped into the octagon, he suffered from a second loss in his UFC career, dropping an unanimous decision of magicality at UFC 313.
However, he has the opportunity to redeem himself when he ran it with Ankaraev in Las Vegas on October 4th.
As it stands, Pereira is a weaker +185 in the rematch, but if he can regain his 205-pound crown, he will become the third fighter in UFC history and hold the belt twice. The other two are Randy Couture and John Jones.
