Alexander Volkanovsky went to war with Diego Lopez and left the two-time featherweight champion.
Despite being over 35 years old and leaving behind consecutive losses and having Drake make a big bet on him, “Great Great” lived in his Monica at UFC 314.
Of course, winning wasn’t easy.
Looking back at Slugfest via his YouTube channel, Volkanovski revealed what he believes to be the most dangerous aspect of Lopes’ skill set.
“I went in and knew Diego was going to be tough,” Volkanovsky said. “Perhaps tougher than we thought. He took some big shots, but he was even tougher than we expected. Even when you land on him, you know things are coming back. He’s always dangerous, always fighting back with a combo, not just one shot.
“That kind of person, it’s hard not to hit unless you’re involved at all. But you have to try and do as much damage as possible while not taking too much of your own.”
Alexander Volkanovsky aims to quickly return to the Octagon
Although we still don’t see what’s coming next for Volkanovski, according to the man himself, he wants to fight as early as July.
“In combat, I obviously wanted to go back there,” Volkanovski told TMZ Sports. “I mentioned being very active, but I still want to be active. Clearly, seeing some bumps and bruises, seeing what it goes, talking to the UFC, it makes it happen.
“I’m definitely fighting again this year, but the question is, am I doing two more?”
