On the plate, Shohei ohtani appears to be invincible.
His baseball resume speaks for itself. And his batting prowess continues this season as he leads the National League with several hit metrics.
But his teammates behind all the glory describe Otani as a fun and playful person.
“He loves to joke around. He likes to play little pranks on everyone,” 3 baseman Max Muncie told Doug McCain of Nation. “He’s always smiling and laughing and having a good time.”

“Our meetings, plane flights, getting on the bus, he’s just cracking jokes all the time,” Muncie added.
Otani will have eight seasons in his MLB career, at least until the 2033 season. Muncie compared the 30-year-old child to a child on a baseball team that is better than other players of his age.
“The best way I could explain him to everyone was like you were 10, 11 years old, the guy you hang out with you that you swore was always 16. He was far better than anyone else,” Muncie said. “That’s how he feels. He’s a little kid who is better than anyone else.”
Muncie emphasized McCain the importance of having fun playing baseball. And Otani contributed to that fun team culture at the clubhouse.
Despite the unanimous achievements of the most valuable players in the 2024 NL, Muncy said Otani was humble.
“It’s fun to be around such a guy,” Muncie said. “To be such a global superstar and realize how humble he is, how carefree he is, and how fun he is.”
Otani cut .290/.383/.625 and leads the National League with home runs (23), runs (68) and OPS (1.008).
The two-way players have not yet pitched for the , but the right-hander has made progress towards making himself even more unique by contributing to the rotation.
Despite the set-up that delayed Otani’s pitching debut, adversity has not bleaked the fun personality of the four-time All-Star.
