All indications point to the Dallas Mavericks taking the Cooper Flag in their overall choice of No. 1.
After landing the number one pick through the NBA Draft Lottery, the Dallas Mavericks have the opportunity to rebuild.
Despite the suggestions, they managed to trade top picks, but NBA insider Tim McMahon is eager to keep it up and take the Cooper Flag.
Flagg is the number one consensus pick despite former NBA star Tony Allen believes he won’t give his team the bump that many believe.
College basketball expert Dick Vitale is on the record stating that Cooper Flag is the best prospect he’s seen at a age of 18 since covering the game.
Flag has raised numbers to back up statements like this and has become the first ACC player in the last 25 years to register a very unique set of numbers.
- Over 500 points
- Over 100 assists
- Over 30 blocks
Flagg’s talent combination shows a skill set that should often translate into the NBA, and certainly looks impressive when he plays in the same starting five as Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving.
On March 29th, Flag was named MVP in the regional final between Duke and Alabama, with his team winning 85-65.
When asked about his achievements at a press conference, Flag refused to take credit and praised his teammates and coaches.
He said:
“He gave them all the credibility, the coach who put me in a really good situation, the court spot, the ball with the right spot.
“And just let the ball play freely and whatever it is, let me be my own.”
To re-emphasize his point, he added:
This is the attitude that Mavericks coach Jason Kidd loves. Flag has shown an impressive maturity leading Duke over the past seasons, stumbling with attention and pressure, and is now quickly tracked by the NBA.
