Arsenal’s new sports director, Andrea Berta, is tasked with confirming the relocation of Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
The Italian recently took over from the EDU at Emirates Stadium, but now one of his main first tasks is to ensure that Zubimendi’s signature is delivered.
That’s according to this week’s exclusive Charles Watts Catch off side A column that gives Arsenal experts an insight into how the deal is progressing.
Watts appears to have heard that Arsenal is confident in signing Zubimendi despite reports in the Spanish press that suggest Real Madrid can hijack the deal.
Martin Zubimendi looks like Arsenal’s big forwarding priority
Signatures like Zubimendi are a top priority for gunners as Arsenal points out that both Giorguinho and Thomas are on a deal at the end of the season.
Discussing his latest information on Zubimendi Saga, Watts said:
“I know that reports from Spain suggest that Real Madrid may have bolstered attempts to land the midfielder in recent weeks, and that his mind may have been spinning.
“I can’t confirm anything about Madrid’s level of interest in Zvimendi. I don’t know about that, but I know that Arsenal continues to want to trade over the real Sociedad Star line.
“They put a lot of effort into signing the Spaniards. Jason Eight was the club’s interim sports director before appointing Andrea Berta at the forefront of the job.
“And now, Berta is in the club and he is tasked with signing a contract for Spain International, and we hope that Arsenal will try to get it done early in the transfer window.
“Zvimendi is considered an Arsenal priority this summer, and it’s not clear as Yorginho has certainly left and Thomas Party’s future is heading towards the end of the contract.”
