Athletic Club Bilbao attacker Nico Williams has linked his move to the Premier League in recent months, with Arsenal eager to secure his signature.
According to a report by Fichajes, Arsenal is closely monitoring his development, and they are taking part in the player’s bids. The report claims that Arsenal is making a strong push to sign Spanish attackers, and they like to sign him.
Williams is also on the Chelsea radar.
Athletic Club Bilbao is planning to sell players under the £49 million release clause, and Arsenal doesn’t mind paying anything close to that. It remains to be seen whether they will be able to close the move anytime soon.
Initially there were rumors that players could hold contract talks with Spanish clubs.
Nico Williams is a quality addition
It is no secret that they need more depth in their attacking units. The 22-year-old will be a quality long-term acquisition for them. He is already an important player in his club and the country.
Williams is of course the attacker on the left, but he can control it anywhere on the front 3. His versatility would be an extra bonus for Arsenal if they can get the deal done.
The 22-year-old had 11 goals and seven assists in his name last season.
Arsenal’s moves may be attractive
He has proven himself in Laliga and could be open to trying new challenges in the Premier League. Arsenal is one of the largest clubs in the world and they have consistently fought for the title. They reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals last season. There is no doubt that they can provide him with a platform to fight for major trophies.
Arsenal needs an upgrade from Gabriel Martinelli, who was extremely overwhelming last season. Brazilians fail to produce the desired final product, and Williams could be a great alternative. Jose Mourinho labeled him as a “great” player.
UK regular football could help Williams improve further. It is still unknown how the situation will develop.
