The transition from starters to relief is by no means an easy proposition.
For a player like Bobby Miller (the former first round pick is immeasurable upside down), switching at this point in his career seems perhaps far from ideal. The nuances of each role are different, and the reality that they don’t pitch extra innings certainly fits.

Doug McKain of Nation recently interviewed Miller, and the duo touched on some interesting topics.
In particular, McCain pushed Miller to see how the adjustments from the starter to coming out of the bullpen were gone. Miller was very open about breaking the transition.
“That’s quite different,” Miller told Dugout Live. “A lot of that is the same. I attack each batter, stay in attacking mode and strike the way I want to do as a starter. The whole routine was my biggest adjustment. I’m still trying to find the perfect routine for me today.
“You pitch early in the day and then you’re ready to pitch in the game in any innings a few hours afterwards. That was the biggest adjustment for me. I didn’t prepare a regular starter before the game.”

The sample size is not very large, but this is a consideration of the talent and new successes of the given Miller. The have a great need for consistency within the bullpen. Not from the realm of the possibility that the mirror will stand up and plunge into a shocking arm.
He has already proven that he can drive out big league batters with elite fastballs. As he becomes more and more comfortable with his new role, Miller may have some impact on “financing deadlines” despite him already in the organization.
