The UFC’s next pay-per-view event took a major hit on Saturday night.
During the UFC Mexico broadcast, play-by-play man John Annik revealed that a clash between Jeff Neil, scheduled to be down on April 12 at UFC 314 on April 12, is no longer on the docket after “Steel Hands” was forced to step down from voting due to injuries.
It’s an unfortunate blow for the event at Plates, where he plans to take his fifth walk to the Octagon after winning a highlight reel knockout in his first four appearances in the promotion.
Anik confirmed that Plets won’t get a replacement opponent in Miami, but teased that the promotion is cooking big ones due to the highly promoted outlook being promoted from Sao Paulo, Brazil.
As a result, the main cards remain for four UFC 314 games, but could change in the coming weeks. The promotion is either adding another fight to the event, or simply slamming one of the qualifiers into the big show.
Even if Carlos star no longer competes, UFC 314 is still a card banger
Although Plets’ firing from the event is unfortunate, there are four confirmed bangers remaining, including a featherweight championship showdown between former title holder Alexander Volkanovsky and third-place candidate Dilego Lopez.
Also, as Paddy Pimblett faces former Bellator MMA Champion ‘Iron’ Michael Chandler, he is treated to an attractive co-main event in a battle where Paddy Pimblett can push “Baddy” into the lightweight top 10.
Then Jean Silva munches a bit to absolutely crush the clinically insane Bryce Mitchell.
