It was already a busy summer at Celtic, so how many more times do you want to sign?
On Friday, Benjamin Niglen was announced at Parkhead and arrived from Norgeland with a reported £1.3 million reporting fee.
He is the third summer edition of the club after Ross Doohan and Kieran Tierney, but does another fullback market hoop enjoy Niglen playing together?
Celtic’s latest left back
Greg Taylor’s contract at Celtic officially expired Tuesday, ending his six-year stay in Glasgow.
During the club, Taylor made 216 appearances. Of these, 199 was the start, the uncontroversial first-choice left-back, the majority.
Taylor arrived from Kilmarnock and replaced Tierney in 2019. The opposite is the opposite, but because heroes are prone to infamous injuries, Brendan Rogers requires a capable proxy.
So, as reported by Daily Records’ Mark Pilly, Keita Kosugi, worth £2 million by the football relocation, is their first choice target and is advertised as Celts sign him.
Sportbladet previously recorded interest in Paris Saint-Germain’s fullback, but Bosse Andersson, sports director at Djurgården, told the Swedish outlet that Kosugi would be allowed to leave only for “a considerable amount of money.”
Nevertheless, this looks like a deal the Celts can make.
How Kosugi improves Celtic
Kosugi, just 19 years old, joined Jurgarden in March 2024 following a successful trial with the Stockholm-based side. These are the statistics of the club so far.

As the table outlines, from the moment he arrived, the Japanese teenager was the first choice starter for Djurgården, a key figure in the team that reached the Conference League semi-finals last season, and a key figure in the team that reached the Víkingur Reykjavík and Rapid Wien.
Scout Elijah Michiels described his performance as “excellent” and praised his “intersection ability…. big overlapping runs and fast acceleration.”
So let’s take a look at his statistics from last year’s conference league.

As the table outlines, Kosugi was highly ranked in a wide range of metrics in the conference league last season.
This includes defensive stats, tackles and blocks, but also progressive carry, highlighting offensive abilities.
Football Asia’s Han June is his “one of Asia’s hottest young outlooks”, outlines his “fearless advocacy”, and says football talent scout Jacek Kulig has stated that “pace…work rate and technique” is his main attribute, and that everything makes Kosugi “modern defense.”
Meanwhile, writer Kai Watson points out that he is a “promising offensive threat.” The latter man scored 16 goals in 2024/25, four of which came from just eight outings on the left field.
The Swedes who can operate on either side would certainly thrive in support, if Kosugi arrives, if he can form an unstoppable partnership with his fellow new recruits, in other words, dynamic and overlapping fullbacks.
