To join the exclusive club just before Kershaw became 20th pitcher in MLB history, Chicago White Sox outfielder Michael A. Taylor slid into Muncie’s lap while trying to steal a 3 base.
Muncy had to finish the game and leave the field with the help of a trainer. Kershaw then threw his third strikeout of the night and received a standing ovation from the crowd at Electric Stadium.
But while the three Cy Young winners made history against the White Sox, Kershaw was thinking about his teammates.
“Kirsh started running and gave me a big hug,” Muncie said on Tuesday in Foul Territory. “I was saying, ‘Congratulations’ to him. He sat there and said, “Hey, sorry.” Sorry, but he’s not your fault.
Kershaw apologized greatly to Muncie, but the ‘ three-baseman has asserted that the injury wasn’t Southpaw’s fault.
“I’m not your fault, I’m a guy,” Muncie continued. “He got up and gave me a big hug, especially at that moment when Kirsch came and held me. It was amazing. I wanted to hold him on the field to congratulate him, but obviously I wasn’t there.”
Muncie’s absence from the lineup has been revealed as the attack has struggled to produce since the third baseman landed with a bone bruise in his left knee on the injured list.
The snapped a seven-game losing streak against the San Francisco Giants on Saturday.
