Crystal Palace are considering a move for Jobe Bellingham as they plan the next evolution of their midfield, but the youngster’s long-term contract with Borussia Dortmund and growing interest in the Premier League would complicate any deal.
According to BILD, the English midfielder is attracting interest from Premier League clubs, with Palace among the clubs keeping an eye on Jude Bellingham’s younger brother.
Palace continue to pursue the 20-year-old after his first few months in Germany, with the player still tied to a sizeable long-term contract, despite Dortmund hinting they want to keep him.
Jobe Bellingham is struggling in Germany
Bellingham joined Dortmund from Sunderland in the summer and while there is no doubting his talent, his adaptation is ongoing.
However, Palace believe the England Under-21 international is a smart addition to complement their younger players.
Palace will need to thread the needle. Bellingham has just signed for 2025 and is under contract until 2030, but his contract is reported to be worth around £98,000 a week, terms that strengthen Dortmund’s hand and make him less likely to leave in January.
Multiple media outlets have reported that Manchester United are another club investigating the player’s situation, and recent reports taken together suggest that Dortmund themselves are cool with the idea of a winter sale.
Crystal Palace are looking for a new midfielder
The player is dissatisfied with his playing time at Dortmund, as it has not been what he had envisioned when he first arrived, and this has affected his development.
Palace are currently exploring opportunities to sign a new midfielder after losing Eberechi Eze in the summer transfer window. Furthermore, Adam Wharton’s future is uncertain, with big clubs interested in signing the midfielder and Palace potentially losing another important player.
It remains to be seen whether Bellingham is ready to return to English football. If he’s thinking about it, there will be no shortage of offers.
