Despite the disappointing night, former player Derek Fisher was impressed by the performance of one La Lakers star in a 115-146 defeat to the Chicago Bulls.
In LeBron James’ return game, Purple and Gold saw control from the first half onwards, but Bulls guard Coby White wreaked havoc and led the Eastern Conference side to a victory on the road.
Luka Doncic reappeared for the Lakers with 34 points, eight boards and six assists, but James added 17 points in his first game.
The defense from the La Lakers was shocking, acknowledging the most points since 1984 in games other than overtime at home.
Despite the outcome, there was one player who was impressed by Fisher, but he was special to the team throughout the season.
Austin Reeves scored 25 points in a highly efficient 66.7% shooting against the Bulls.
He tried his best to keep his team in the game, but the Bulls decided on the night.
Speaking about him during his postgame analysis of “Access SportsNet,” Fisher said:
“And because it’s all about being drawn to Austin and seeing him do well and seeing him succeed there, it’s all about doing things the right way.”
“So when you pour into your team and teammates, when you emit that type of energy, and you’re not really doing it for your own satisfaction and glory. It’s really about winning something bigger than you. Most of the time, this comes back.
Fisher also recognized Reeves’ highly efficient night score for the Lakers.
“Austin’s ability to be this efficient tonight is what he’s talked about recently. I think he’s filming 44 45% of this season.
“He wants to be a 50% shooter off the field. He wants to be one of the guys on 50/40/90. Performances like tonight show that he’s more than capable,” he added.
Reaves was the leader of the team alongside Lebron James and other veterans.
During James’ two weeks of absence, again with Don Sic, the Purple and Gold Lodge made some big performances to support some wins.
He averages 23.4 ppg, 5.9 APG and 5.7 RPG, while shooting an impressive 69.2% off the field in his last 10 games.
His ability to take tough shots and intervene when James and Don Sic are out makes him a valuable asset on the roster.
With 12 games, the Lakers are pleased that all the starters will be back, but Reeves is doing very well to fill in the blanks left by others.
He will promote his game this season as well, and heading into the playoffs, the Lakers will be sure there is another player who can give them 15-20 points.
