Sheehan made his second start of the 2025 season on Sunday with the Houston Astros. The right-hander allowed one run on five hits on four strikeouts and pitched five innings.
The 25-year-old was tasked with facing the San Diego Padres lineup when he returned to MLB. Sheehan underwent surgery on Tommy John in 2023 and missed everything from last season when he recovered.
The right-hander did not skip the beat and scored one run with three hits on six strikeouts against his division rivals.
In the season, Sheehan has won a 2.00 ERA and will have 10 strikeouts in two starts. The surprised many when right-handed was chosen after a strong debut of the season, but the team chose to keep Justin Willobleski alongside the big league team to get longer lengths.
Younger arms like Sheehan don’t have much opportunity as the regain staple starters with rotations like Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell.
Manager Dave Roberts explained the ‘ rotation situation as the season progressed, and explained Sheehan’s role in the rest of the year.
“I think (Sheehan) is getting it, but that means we have other people who are giving us more runways,” Roberts said. “With Blake Snell and Glasnow underneath, some people get the opportunity to make the most of it. …We have some tough decisions when everyone is back in health, and that’s clearly a good issue.”
