Former Arsenal star Lauren says he believes his old club has one more important advantage over Real Madrid when preparing to meet in the Champions League.
Arsenal is a real host at Emirates Stadium tonight for the first game of the Champions League quarterfinals, and most fans and critics may have the Spanish giants as their favorites.
Still, Arsenal legend Lauren, a member of its famous “invincible” side, is confident that Mikel Arteta’s side could become a strong defensive team.
Lauren thinks Arsenal is far better than Madrid behind, so it could be a close tie that descends onto the wire.
Speaking to Marca, Lauren discussed many topics, including interest in him from Real Madrid, before deciding to join Arsenal.
The former Cameroon International also focused on these current aspects as they prepared to meet in this exciting Champions League clash.
Lauren makes a big claim to Arsenal’s defense.
“I think Real Madrid is my favorite. Madrid handles these situations better than anyone else, so they have 15 Champions League titles,” Lauren said.
“They have incredibly talented players like Vinicius, Bellingham, Mbappe, Rodrygo, and the same applies to the bench.
“Even so, I think it’s going to be a pretty long tie. Arsenal can balance it for a number of reasons. Defensively, they’re way better than Real Madrid, and tactically, they do work well as units.
“Centreback (an interview was conducted before Gabriel’s injuries were known), and in my opinion, the fullback is better than what Real Madrid currently has. I think it can balance the scores.”
Arsenal only appeared once with Real Madrid in the Champions League, earning 1-0 at the Bernabéu and 0-0 at Highbury in the 16th round in 2005/06.
