Ian Garry wants Carlos’ prizes to know that this is his world.
On Tuesday, Dana White dropped a series of bombs, including two major world title clashes scheduled for UFC 316 on Saturday, June 7th.
It would be the main event showdown between Garry and the Sussing nominee Carlos Award at UFC Kansas City Headliner on April 26th.
Shortly after the announcement came, Garry joined social media and brought a long response to the news. But in the response there was a very simple message to his partner: “This is my world.”
“Yes, it’s official. You have a new main event,” Garry said on Instagram. “Kansas City, MO, Me and Carlos Plets, April 26th. I’m excited. Why? The UFC is calling me, ‘Oh, I need someone. Who do you need? Who do you need? Who do you call?”
“I show everyone how good I am. Carlos Pleets is great, but this is my world. I love fighting. I have nothing more to like fighting than fighting.
Ian Garry wants to bounce back from his first professional loss
For the first time in his professional mixed martial arts career, “The Future” aims to bounce from loss after a shortage against Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310 in December. Overall, Garry is 8-1 within the Octagon and is still strong as a 7th place candidate in the welterweight division.
The loss to Pleats could prove disastrous for Garry, causing him to plummet into the rankings and leave the top 10.
Of course, the “Nightmare” victory spiked him, potentially bringing one big victory from his first shot at UFC Gold.
Originally, Plets was scheduled to face Jeff Neal at UFC 314 in Miami, but “The Steel Hands” withdrew from the match. Instead of rushing to find a replacement for Plates, the promotion pulled him out of the card completely, giving him his own main event against a higher ranked opponent.
