Justin Wetzel punched tickets to the PFL World Tournament Bantamweight Final in a dominant show with Mando Gutierrez of Wichita, Kansas.
Wetzell had full control over the majority of the opening round, secured a takedown against the fence, and held Gutierrez on the mat in the first five minutes. The trend continued in the second stanza as Wetzel was immediately shot for a takedown, getting exactly that and locked his opponent between the mats again.
Gutierrez fished for the naked chalk in the rear, but Wetzel popped out of his head and immediately attempted his own submission, locking narrowly into a straight armbar. Gutierrez ultimately survived, but that’s all he can do. The referee called for a stand-up for 45 seconds, but Wetzell put Gutierrez back on the canvas and held top control until the end of the round.
It was the same in the third and final round as Wetzell scored another takedown and kept his opponent grounded for the final five minutes. Gutierrez attempted a Hale Mary guillotine choke, but Wetzel defended briefly, securing a decisive decision victory with a scorecard.
Official Results:Justin Wetzell def. Mandogutierrez via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
