Liverpool’s expected Premier League title appears to have a rather moving share.
Last summer, Jurgen Klopp resigned almost nine years later at the helm of Anfield. It hurts, but Liverpool is enduring, with almost all observers charging to unexpected glory towards glory at the start of the campaign.
Liverpool’s hopeful victory is also turning into parting. One of the clubs is getting ready to join hands with something new. It’s starting to look like dust, it’s finished.
Farewell, Trent Alexander Arnold
The most painful thing is that you can really stop and think about it and see the logic. Liverpool vice captain Trent Alexander Arnold is on the verge of agreeing to a pre-contract agreement with Real Madrid, and that hurts.
This hurts as it is one of the cities itself, as it was raised from an early age and became the mainstay of Merseyside’s most successful team in several generations.
Under Arne Slot, Liverpool and Alexander Arnold remain to play in just nine games, a solid favorite with a 12-point lead. He has already lifted the title, one of the core pillars of Klopp’s dynasty.
It hurts, but there is very little shock. Alexander Arnold is quiet at the forefront of the campaign’s contract, conquering the full range at the age of 26 and is now in his ostensible prime. Real Madrid is not a rival in the division (although in recent years it was the Reds’ European bain), but it is also the most prestigious outfit in the world.
The reasoning is clear. Alexander Arnold wants greatness. We may not agree with his call, but that’s his call.
Currently, slots need to be stepped up by other prominent creative players in Liverpool.
Liverpool’s next torrent should step up
Liverpool laments the departure of his boyhood hero, but Alexander Arnold’s decision will at least be somewhat weakened by a Premier League victory and an overload of luxury quality that will keep the slot system turning over the next few years.
Market Movers
Football Fancast’s Market Movers series explores the changing landscape of the modern transfer market. How much is your club’s star player, or is it worth the biggest flop of today?
Connor Bradley, that’s your time. The 21-year-old right-back has been waiting on the wing for over a year and is of sufficient quality to rise to a normal start role in the coming years.
The noise about Bayer Leberkusen’s Jeremy Frimon will certainly intensify as Alexander Arnold’s fate is sealed. Liverpool sources have suggested that there is already discussion with Dutchman’s agents, and he was able to join Bradley in the slot’s backline in just a few months.
However, FSG does not expect to be unable to have a right-back to replicate Alexander Arnold’s almost exaggerated creative force. Other Liverpool stars need to step up in that respect.
The 23-year-old Szoboszlai has been one of Liverpool’s most improved players this season and has truly become his own player since the turn of the calendar year. Liverpool signed Hungary from RB Leipzig in June 2023 for a fee of £60 million. This is an important part of the important midfield reconstruction.
His constant workplace, his oiled engine and tenacious attitude have even won over Reds fans, even praised Liverpool content creator Asim Mahmoud as a “champion performer” who always puts in the “absolute monster of the shift.”
Certainly he needs more in the output department. Especially now, Trent has left. In all competitions, the attacking midfielder scored seven goals and provided six assists in 40 matches. This is at most a mid-way return.
Ranked in the bottom 36% of midfielders and wingers attacking for assists in the Premier League, and according to FBREF, the top 19% of shot-making actions per 90 can see where the room is for improvement.
Szoboszlai will need to create more of his technical gifts next season. Not only will you provide more threats in the last third, you will also need to adopt the mantle of Alexander Arnold and supply the forward with consistent creative support.
To be fair, there are signs that weekly £120k talent has broken into the playmaking front since slots replaced Klopp, creating even greater opportunities in the Premier League this season.

Perhaps it is exciting that his peak of high metres is still unexplored. Still, Szoboszlai is one of Liverpool’s most valuable players, with TransferMarkt currently recording its price tag at around £68 million.
This is even higher than Alexander Arnold’s worth around £63 million (TransferMarkt does not take into account player contract status when making the assessment).
It highlights the caliber held by the player slot in Liverpool, and may underscore why Liverpool is OK when Alexander Arnold moves to Madrid with his vice captaincy lying on his way to Madrid.
With the welcome “magic” to talent scout Jacek Kulig, Szoboszlai has everything he needs to become one of the greatest offensive midfielders in the modern Premier League.
He is already considered the most valuable on the continent, and with Alexander Arnold leaving, he will need to lead the step-up to strengthen Liverpool’s playmaking division.
