Dallas Mavericks CEO Rick Weltz compared Luka Donsic to another controversial trade of the past.
The Dallas Mavericks held a press conference yesterday to address the reporters. However, it was a unique press conference as reporters were not permitted to use cameras or recorders.
Fans denounced Nico Harrison for holding a closed door press conference to avoid answering difficult questions.
During the press conference, Harrison did not change Luka Donsic’s stance on trade, giving the same answer. Mavericks’ GM has even criticized Mark Cuban and Dirk Nowitzki.
But that was a comment from Mavericks CEO Rick Weltz, under the radar that has stirred up so many heads from fans.

During a closed door press meeting, Dallas Mavericks CEO Rickwellz spoke about Lukadon Sic’s trade. He believes the fans are responding a bit unfairly.
He compared how fans reacted to Don Chic’s trade with how Golden State Warriors fans did when the franchise traded Monta Ellis and gave Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson more time in the backcourt.
“Weltz was tagged with an anecdote about his days in charge of the Warriors when the Golden State fanbase infuriated with management to trade fan favorites (and future MAV) Monta Ellis.”
“Until a young point guard named Steph Curry appeared. He apparently forgot in this analogy that the Doncic tribe was Curry, not Ellis.”

Of course, this comparison by Welts was oversimplified. Monta Ellis was a great player for the Warriors. However, he was never a superstar caliber point guard at the start of his career.
Second, the blow of trading Ellis was easier to take when Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson proved to be Hall of Fame-level backcourts.
If the Mavericks felt they had the same or better outlook as Luka Donsic, they might not be so distraught.
But for all of Anthony Davis’ talent, he’s not as good as Luka Donsic and is at the end of his prime’s tail, making him very little profitable in the short or long term.
