Miranda Maverick was seriously injured in the loss to former UFC champion Rose Namajunas.
Maverick faced past training partners in the UFC Atlanta co-main event on Saturday, losing a competitive unanimous decision and snapping a four-fight winning streak. In the third round, Namajunas cut Maverick with a left hook.
After the defeat, Maverick issued his first statement, revealing that even before the third round sequence he suffered from a torn ACL in the fight.
“It’s not the outcome I wanted, but I fought against what I had,” Maverick wrote on Instagram. “My ACL was torn apart in the second round (I think when I’m exchanging takedowns, but I’ll have to rewatch it exactly).
“I’ll take this layoff boldly. You’ll see me again!
The 27-year-old fell 8-4 on the UFC run, and all her promotional losses are currently ranked in the top 10 in the UFC flyweight division. On her previous outing, Maverick defeated Jamielyn Horse at UFC Tampa by unanimous decision.
Namajunas has returned above .500, but has now recorded a 3-2 overall record since the two-time strawweight champions transitioned to flyweight. This November, Namajunas returned to their victory column after making a close decision to Erin Blanchfield at UFC Edmonton this November.
