Liverpool and Everton are currently playing in the Merseyside Derby, 0-0 at halftime. It’s also 11 V 11, but the visitors probably weren’t so lucky as they couldn’t send James Tarkowski in the opening 12 months at Anfield.
After the ball broke at the edge of the Everton box, Tarkowski ran towards it. And when he took all the ball, his follow-through took his studs to the legs of Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Alistair.
Despite the strong appeal of Liverpool players and supporters, the yellow card was shown to Tarkowski, and this decision was confirmed after a VAR check. However, some believe that the Everton defender should have seen the red.

Commenting on the Merseyside Derby for Sky Sports, Gary Neville said he can count himself as extremely fortunate that Tarkowski was not sent out in his 300th Premier League appearance.
“It’s a potential leg breaker. I think he’s very fortunate there. Some people say it’s a natural follow-through, but he doesn’t have to do that. There’s a lot of power, it’s high. He’s very fortunate.”
For Liverpool, the first half is frustrating, and the moment with Tarkowski and Mac Alistair is part of the reason. The Premier League leaders weren’t close to their best spot in the opening 45 minutes, and Everton would have led very easily at that interval.
Both teams have a second half, and both are notable as they create breakthroughs. Mohamed Sarah, whose successors line up in Liverpool, will be the one looking out at the home side.
