Liverpool reportedly could have afforded a little more financially to meet Mohamed Sarah’s contract demands due to Trent Alexander Arnold’s impending departure from Anfield.
It was a busy few months for the Reds, with both Sarah and Alexander Arnold coming along with Virgil van Dik towards the end of the contract.
However, it has been officially confirmed that Sarah has signed a new contract with a massive boost to the Merseyside giant.
According to BBC Sport, Egypt International has not cut its salary to stay in Liverpool and is set to pocket £400,000 a week.
The report points out that Alexander Arnold’s expected exit on a free transfer to Real Madrid actually helped in this regard as he gave the club more money.
Silver lining from Mohamed Sarah’s New Deal Trent Alexander Arnold’s departure?
Losing Alexander Arnold for free would be a big blow, but it seems he would have needed a great wage to stay at the club as well.
It’s not clear whether the LFC can’t afford to keep all three of these key players, but knowing that England’s right-back wages will soon be billed seems to have made a difference.
However, BBC Sports has made it clear that money is not a key factor for Sarah, who could have won a total of £500 million if he moved to Saudi Arabia.
Instead, Sarah wanted to continue competing at the highest level for perhaps the longest time.
The 32-year-old is clearly one of the best players in the world, scoring 32 goals in all competitions this season and contributing 22 assists to Liverpool.
Like other modern greats such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, Sarah clearly has it in him, even in his mid- or late-30s.
