Manchester United reportedly have already decided to retain young forward Joshua Zilky as part of their first team plan for next season.
Dutch International only participated in Man UTD from Bologna last summer, but struggled in its first season at Old Trafford.
It would not have been surprising to see the Red Devils immediately another way with Zirkzee.
Still, according to a report from Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport, United appears to be continuing to rely on Zirkzee.
Even if Zirkzee wasn’t at his best, this article states that Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho will likely be leaving, so it may make sense not to offload attacking players at once.
Can Joshua Zirk improve at Manchester United?
Zirkzee showed some signs of quality in his first season with United.
Reuben Amorim inherited a struggling team that appears to be low-confident.
With that important context in mind, it is probably not surprising that Jilkzee didn’t show his best form at Old Trafford.
Who can leave Man United this summer?
As Corriere Dello Sport points out, the future of Rashuds Hojlund is also unquestionable, while Rashford and Sancho are likely to be sold.
The Italian paper says Inter Milan is considering Hoilund, and it probably makes more sense to say goodbye to him than Zilky.
Hojlund is currently spending two seasons in Manchester, and it is clear that he is out of his depths.
Zirkzee only had one season, so perhaps there’s a little more time to show that he can improve and adapt Amorim’s plans.
