The Golden State Warriors are secretly about to sign Jonathan Kuminga with "they will never announce"

Jonathan Cuminga is the last major piece left in the 2025 offseason. After Josh Giddy and Cam Thomas solve the problem with their team, Kuminga is next. Brian Windhorst reports that he is trying to resolve a transaction that will benefit everyone involved.

With just a month left between 2025 and the 26 regular season, most teams have a full roster. For almost all offseasons, the Golden State Warriors were stuck ahead of Jonathan Kuminga.

He is the third and final piece to fall into the longest offseason saga as Cam Thomas signed a qualifying offer with Brooklynnet. Josh Giddy has also signed an extension of his contract with the Chicago Bulls. Currently, Kuminga is the only left whose situation remains unknown.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reports that the Warriors have another ace on their sleeves. They want to build deals that will benefit the Warriors, Kuminga and the teams he can trade him.

As a team that wants to double the championship windows with Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler, the Warriors want to get something in return for Kuminga. They are a team with high ambitions, and Cuminga may not be part of that plan.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has the dynamics of breaking him in Cuminga. This means that Kuminga doesn’t have enough opportunities with the team. It would be best for them to say goodbye to Kuminga so that he can thrive elsewhere. However, the team doesn’t want to be empty-handed.

Windhorst believes Kuminga will be with the warriors for the time being, but that could change by the February trade deadline.

“What the Warriors are trying to do here is that they will never announce this, but they are trying to sign a deal that they can trade with because they know that Jonathan Kuminga is worth it elsewhere in the league,” Windhorst told ESPN’s NBA today.

“The reason they were in Logger Heads, especially in a market that is closed to free agency, as Cuminga naturally wants to be paid as he proved his talent.”

“I believe Cuminga will start with the Warriors this season. I believe there will still be a window for him to get a multi-year contract, but I understand why both sides are being dug.”

Kuminga doesn’t play a prominent role in the warrior, but he still has the potential. He averaged 15.3 points as a 22-year-old player in the 2024-25 season. There’s a possibility for Kuminga, but it’s not maximizing it with Golden State, where Green and Butler play the forward position.

It’s best for Kuminga to leave the team, but that will probably involve a big deal. That’s why the Warriors want a structured deal that could lead to Kuminga leaving the team and leaving the generous package.

The Warriors benefit from resolving the situation, and the grass may be greener for the cuminga on the other side. It’ll be difficult to take off, but Windhorst reports that the warriors are on this. If they pull it off, trading is great for everyone.
